“Almost, Maine” by John Cariani at
McKay Theater (McKay Campus School), Fitchburg State College. Maine playwright Cariani writes about a slice of American life—the people of small-town, far-northern New England—archetypical and yet, totally unique; whose lives are shaped by a harsh but beautiful environment. It is a humorous and touching play about the human heart—about the falling in love in the deepest winter under the northern lights. Tickets $10; $5 for seniors. Repeats April 14–17. 8 Thursday, 6 pm.
“Got Milk?” at the Gardner Museum, 28 Pearl St., Gardner. Alan Kulvete is a local historian who will share unique anecdotes and display his milk collectables. He has been writing a complete history of dairy farms in Gardner and he will talk about some of the area’s best-known dairies. Wine & Cheese Reception from 6-7 pm, lecture from 7-8 pm. Antje Duvekot performs at the Bull Run Restaurant, Route 2A, Shirley. Antje won the Kerrville (TX) Folk Festival’s “Best New Folk Award,” the Boston Music Award for “Outstanding Folk Act of The Year,” and was picked to represent the “Best of the Boston Music Industry.” Call 978-425-4311 or visit www.bullrunrestaurant.com.

Spring Spectacular Craft & Specialty Food Fair at Quabbin Middle School, 800 South St., Barre. 

10-11 Saturday, 1 pm & Sunday, 10 am.
River Rat Race on the Millers River in Athol and Orange. This popular canoe race starts just upstream from the South Main Street Bridge in Athol and finishes about 100 yards upstream of the South Main Street Bridge in Orange. A community event, Saturday’s celebration includes a parade, downtown sales, street vendors and more. Sunday includes kayak and professional class canoe races. An American Musical Sampler performed by the Orchestra of Indian Hill at Littleton High School, 56 King St., Littleton. Works by the “deans” of American composition, including Copland’s “Appalachian

Bluegrass performance with Cherryholmesat Fitchburg State College, Pearl Street, Fitchburg.
With their roots based in bluegrass, Celtic, and jazz music, the good ol’ fashioned family band Cherryholmes has stormed to the top of the music world since winning the 2005 IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Award for

“Disney’s Mulan Jr.” at Theatre at the
Mount, 444 Green St., Gardner. Travel back to the legendary, story-telling days of ancient China. Mulan Junior is a heart-warming celebration of culture, honor and a fighting spirit. All seats $6. Call 978-632-2403.

Fishing Derby at Barrett Park Pond, 40 Barrett Parkway, Leominster. Annual fishing derby for youths ages 14 and younger; children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Art at the Inns at the Back Road Inns of Central Massachusetts. The six Inns of Petersham and Barre will showcase 15 to 20 talented Massachusetts artists for the weekend. “Classic Toys Strut Their Stuff” at Top Fun Aviation Toy Museum, 21 Prichard Street, Fitchburg. Most of the time our toys stay safely in their cases or in their storage boxes. But every now and then Curator Rosalie E. Dunbar gets a few of them out to talk about them and put them through their paces. Museum admission ($5 adults) includes program. Paranormal Activities. What are they? Where are they? Meet a researcher who’s been researching paranormal activities for several years at the Westminster Historical Society, 110 Main St., Westminster. Call 874-5569.

“Make a Comet!” at the Thayer Memorial Library, Main Street, Lancaster. The Aldrich Astronomical Society activity helps students learn about astronomy and space exploration concepts as they hear all

22 Thursday, 7 pm.
Dance Club Show at Weston Auditorium, Fitchburg State College. The Dance Club—largest club on campus with more than 200 members—brings a dynamic and diverse show featuring selections from tap and jazz to lyrical, hip hop, modern, contemporary, theatrical, straight street, character, technique, contemporary ballet, jazz funk, Irish step, reggae, belly dancing, step, and Latin. Leominster Art Association’s 45th Annual Arts, Crafts & Photography Exhibit. Runs Friday, 1 -5 pm; Saturday, 10 am-3:30 pm and 6:30-9 pm; and Sunday, 1 -5 pm at St. Leo’s Auditorium, 108 Main St. Leominster. More than 250 works of art by local artists and artisans on exhibit and for sale. Live demonstrations of arts, crafts and photography and a raffle of paintings and crafts. Free admission. 24-25 Saturday & Sunday, 11 am–3 pm. Animal Makeover Weekend at Davis’ Farmland, 145 Redstone Hill Rd., Sterling. Be a stylist for a day! Start out by brushing a bunny, add some scrunchies and Voila! Next, try painting Jenny the donkey's hooves or even make over your favorite Farmland goats. Showcase your talent in a parade afterward. Call 978-422-6666. 

25 Sunday, 2 pm. The Montachusett Chorale’s Spring Concert at Leominster City Hall, West Street. This “family” oriented program of literary inspired music for all ages is being performed to benefit the Friends of the Leominster Public Library. Tickets $12 in advance and $15 at the door, children under 18 are admitted free of charge. 

28 Wednesday, 6 pm.
Wetland Birds and Migrants, with Joan and Larry Duprey at the Orange Wildlife Management Area, North Main Street, Orange, sponsored by the Athol Bird and Nature Club. 

30 Friday, 6-9 pm.
Taste of Spring at the Fitchburg Art Museum, 25 Merriam Parkway, Fitchburg. An evening of
