July 2010 - Events Calendar

Below is a list of what is going on in Johnny Appleseed Country during the month of April. If you are aware of an event that is going on in our region that is not listed here, email it to us, we will be glad to put it on for all our visitors to see!

2-5 Friday
– Monday. Fitchburg Longsjo Classic races in and around Fitchburg. Events include time trials, Wachusett Road Race, and the main event in downtown Fitchburg on Monday, July 5. For complete list of events and times, visit www.longsjo.com. 

2-5 Friday - Monday. Fitchburg Civic Days celebration. Annual event includes the Fourth of July parade, along with block parties, baseball games and more. www.ci.fitchburg.ma.us. 

3 Saturday, 10 pm.
Fireworks in Fitchburg. As part of the city’s Civic Days celebration, a fireworks display from Rollstone Hill will light the sky over downtown Fitchburg. 

3-4 Saturday & Sunday, 11 am – 3 pm.
Family Fun Olympics at Davis’ Farmland, 145 Redstone Hill Rd., Sterling. Ever wonder what farm kids do for fun? Come be a part of the Farmland Olympics! Fun of Olympic proportions this weekend at Farmland! Hop to victory in the potato sack race and test your strength in the haybale toss. Spit with Mom cheering you on during the watermelon seed spitting contest. Match power and accuracy in the cowboy hat ring toss. Call 978-422-MOOO. 

4 Sunday, 1 pm.
Fourth of July Parade in downtown Fitchburg. Bands, fire trucks, antique cars and more follow the parade route on Main Street. 

4 Sunday, 1–7 pm.
Try Our Pool Free Day at Benjamin Hill Park, 93 Benjamin Road, Shirley. Celebrate the Fourth with a free day of swimming in the Olympic-size pool. Call 978-425-9536 from noon–7 pm daily. 

4 Sunday, 11 am -2 pm.
Family Picnic on the Common and Reading of the Declaration of Independence in Westminster. Bring your family and a picnic lunch to enjoy on the common on Academy Hill and listen to a reading of the Declaration of Independence, written in 1776. 

4 Sunday.
Independence Day parade and celebration in Pepperell. For details, visit www.town.pepperell.ma.us. 

10-11 Saturday & Sunday, 11 am–3 pm.
Rainforest Reptiles at Davis’ Farmland, 145 Redstone Hill Rd., Sterling. If you love creepy crawly creatures, then slither your way to Davis’ Farmland for the Rainforest Reptiles shows! Michael is back with all his reptile and amphibian friends! Hop on in to see gators, lizards, snakes, frogs and even a giant tortoise!

17 Saturday, 10 am–3 pm.
Summer Festival and Chicken Barbecue sponsored by St. Martin’s Church, at the Otter River Sportsman’s Club, Lord Road, Otter River. A family day of games of chance and skill for all ages, raffles, music, and a chicken dinner served from noon–1 pm. Baked goods, hot dogs and other refreshments available all day. Call 978-939-5588 to reserve dinner tickets (recommended). 

17 Saturday, 10 am – 2 pm.
Orange Bicentennial Blast at the Orange Airport, East River Street, Orange. The town celebrates its 200th birthday. 

17-18 Saturday & Sunday, 11 am–3 pm.
Birds of Prey at Davis’ Farmland, 145 Redstone Hill Rd., Sterling. Have you ever wanted to see a bald eagle up close? Here's your chance! Tom Ricardi from the Massachusetts Bird of Prey Rehab Facility will be at Farmland with amazing eagles, hawks, owls and more. Show times are at 11 am and 2 pm. Call 978-422-MOOO.
18 Sunday, 2 pm. Country Music Concert by the Angela West Showband at Coggshall Park, Electric Avenue, Fitchburg. Free admission. Rain dates July 25, August 22. 

24 Saturday, 8–10:30 am. Summer Breakfast at the Finnish Center at Saima Park, 67 Scott Road, Fitchburg. Call 978-582-7717. 

24-25 Saturday & Sunday, 11 am and 2 pm. Flippo the Clown at Davis’ Farmland, 145 Redstone Hill Rd., Sterling. You've seen him on Nickelodeon and ABC Family, now come see Flippo the Clown live! If you like juggling, magic, balloon twisting and ukulele sing-a-longs, then you’ll love Flippo the Clown! Our favorite clown performs amazing feats of balance, juggles 6 balls at once, performs dazzling magic and makes awesome balloon creations. Call 978-422-MOOO. 

29 Thursday. Opening Day for the A-Maze-Ing Race cornfield maze at Davis’ MegaMaze, 145 Redstone Hill Road, Sterling. Open weather permitting; call 978-422-8888.
